Our most popular guided walking holidays offer you
a choice of up to three lengths of walks each day, we
call them Classic Walking Holidays. An easier walk and harder
walk and one in between, perfect for those holidaying together
with different walking tastes. You can walk with one
party level one day, and switch to another the next - it's
entirely up to you.
After a full English breakfast we generally start the day
at 9.30am taking a self-select picnic lunch and returning
to the Country House accommodation between 5.00pm and 6.30pm,
in time for a relaxed three-course evening meal.
Here we have described some of the walks which could be covered
and outline a typical walking week. Our routes are designed
to take into account the best an area has to offer.
We include all the transport you need to and from the walks
- there's no need to worry about car arrangements or sticking
to circular walks.
Our small groups with a guide really do help you get the best out of
your holiday.
In a typical week in Sussex you could enjoy a guided walking holiday that
includes the following walking options.
Day 1: Arrival day
Day 2: Opt for a gentle introduction to the area and join the medium walk for
an 8½ mile walk from Fittleworth via Petersfield and Pulborough Park with
its lovely views of the South Downs and the RSPB water meadows of the River Arun.
Alternative walks: easier 6 miles; harded 11 miles.
Day 3: Select the harder walk of 11 miles - one of the classic walks of the
south coast, with seven dips and climbs - along the historic coastline which includes
the high cliffs at Beachy Head and along the famous Seven Sisters. Alternative
walks: easier 5 miles; medium 8 miles.
Day 4: Experience the true delights of the region on a easier 6½ mile
walk with plenty of time to stop and enjoy the many historic places along the
way - Burton Park and Petworth House included. Alternative walks: medium 9 miles;
harder 11 miles.
Day 5: If today's a Friday we give you the chance to explore independently
or stay at base and enjoy the house and grounds - there's swimming, tennis, croquet
and putting.
Day 6: Why not choose the harder walk today - 12¼ miles of inspiring
countryside from Devil's Dyke to Ditchling Beacon. Alternative walks: easier 5½ miles; medium 9 miles.
Day 7: A grand finale over the downs to Arundel Castle is a fitting end to
a week's walking. Choose from three walks - 6½ miles, 8¾ miles
or 12 miles.
Day 8: Departure day At the end of a good day's walking
After dinner, your walking leaders will tell you about the
choice of walks for the next day, answer any questions you
may have about the routes, and advise on conditions, to enable
you to make your choice. During the evening you may like to
join in an optional organised evening activity such as a quiz or a
talk about the local area. It all adds to the house party
atmosphere of a group of like-minded people holidaying together.

The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. There is normally a good mix of ages,
of new clients and 'regulars' from Britain and overseas, and of couples, friends
and people travelling alone.
All our walks leaders are experienced, mostly enthusiasts who provide thoughtful,
safe and informative leadership at all times.
