Selva, The Dolomites
The distinctive mountains of the Italian Dolomites that surround the
resort of Selva have inspired generations of walkers and mountaineers.
Our guided walks will take you to the dramatic rock pinnacles and vast soaring
cliffs that form a spectacular backdrop to the lush green slopes and scented
pine forests. An excellent network of cable-cars, gondolas and chair lifts enables
everyone to reach the high flower-filled meadows.
Situated in the celebrated Val Gardena, the friendly village of Selva
is the perfect location for an exploration of this stunning area. This is a popular
centre for walkers in the summer and skiers in winter and has a wide range of
amenities.
- Excellent family-run hotel - highly praised by our guests
- Two-centre option with Nago on Lake Garda
- Outstanding walks in the spectacular mountain scenery of the Dolomites

at this resort but is subject to change. Each year we listen carefully to the
views of our guests and make improvements to our walking programmes. Further information
will be sent to you prior to your holiday; however the final selection of walks
will be made by your walking leaders.
Local transport to and from walks:
Local transport is not included in the cost of your holiday.
Please allow up to €75 (approx £60) per week for
transport, excluding your free day. Payable locally in Euros,
for most guests it is normally most convenient to buy a Gardena
Card which permits use of all the buses, chairlifts and gondolas
in the valley.
Maps
Your leaders will of course carry all the necessary maps. However if you would
like one for your own personal enjoyment then we would recommend the following
maps from the 'Tabacco' series.
i) Val Gardena / Gröden Alpe di Siusi / Seiseralm (05) 1:25,000 (which covers
most walks).
ii) Alta Badia / Hochabtei Livinallongo (07) 1:25,000.
Maps can be obtained by mail order from The Map Shop, Tel:

Alternatively you could reach Selva by public transport. First take the shuttle bus (Line 'F') that runs approximately every fifteen minutes to Innsbruck's central station, a journey that takes 18 minutes. From here take the train to either Bressanone (Brixen) or Bozano; these run every 2 hours, journey time 1hr 40 - 2hrs. Connecting buses run from both these stations to Selva (see below).
Flights to Munich: Although a much longer journey from Selva, Munich has the best range of flights from the UK, including a number from regional airports. With a morning arrival into Munich it is possible to reach Selva in a day.

Main line trains run every 2 hours - see www.bahn.de for further details. Travelling by Train: Main line trains, on the line from Verona to Innsbruck, take you as far as the nearest stations at either Bolzano or Bessanone (Brixen). Both routes operate on roughly hourly basis and take just under 1½hrs to reach Selva. Timetables are available (in English) at www.val-gardena.com or www.sii.bz.it
