Germany
Germany's rich diversity, fascinating history and beautiful scenery make it a joy to visit. In the countryside you'll experience the charming ambience of medieval market towns, rolling landscapes and warm hospitality. At the same time Germany's status as an economic powerhouse means that the traditional and ultra-modern often sit together.
In the footsteps of King Ludwig
Deep in southern Germany, the olde worlde town of Füssen sits beneath King Ludwig's legendary Neuschwanstein castle and surrounded by the beautiful lakes and mountains of the Bavarian Alps. On a guided Classic Walking holiday here you'll discover more about Ludwig's eccentric character and admire his splendid palaces. A choice of guided walks allows you to explore this outstanding scenery and cross over into nearby Austria to enjoy the high Alpine meadows.
History & culture
Perhaps the best place to appreciate the country's powerful history is in Berlin, now the vibrant and cosmopolitan capital of a reunified Germany. A guided city break here is a fascinating trip through this epicentre of European history where you'll see old and new side by side. Landmarks on this tour include the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie and the beautiful palaces and gardens at Potsdam. We'll also visit the modern museums and galleries that contribute to the city's exciting cultural scene.
Great cycling journeys
If you prefer exploring by bike, Germany's rivers and lakes offer a number of picturesque routes. A tour along the beautiful Mosel Valley takes you from Trier to Koblenz. Often using traffic-free cycle paths beside the river you'll visit romantic medieval towns, and pass through some of the region's famous vineyards. Starting in the old university town of Heidelberg, our cycle tour Along the Rhine offers a true taste of this corner of Germany.
Starting at Innsbruck in the Austrian Tyrol, our independent cycling tour along the River Inn will take you through outstanding scenery. Cycling beside the river you'll head first for the historic fortress at Kufstein before crossing the border into Germany and continuing your journey to Passau.
Our most popular cycling holiday is around the shores of Lake Constance. This varied holiday takes you through Switzerland, Germany and Austria with beautiful lake scenery throughout. If you prefer a gentler holiday our Leisurely Lake Constance tour has shorter daily distances and offers plenty of time to visit the attractive lakeside towns, relax in the sun and swim in the lake. |
